Birmingham City are fast approaching what will be a crucial January transfer window
Lyndon Dykes is set for World Cup involvement with Scotland
Birmingham City are gearing up for an important January transfer window after latching onto the promotion pace in the Championship.
Blues have won four of their last six league matches to climb up to seventh in the table and attention has turned to January behind the scenes.
Chris Davies knows that it will be an important transfer window to ensure Blues can last the distance.
Additional firepower is likely to be needed with only one Blues striker firing on all cylinders. Jay Stansfield has 12 goal contributions in all competitions to lead the way and Marvin Ducksch has started to find the net of late.
Kyogo Furuhashi is still without a Championship goal and seems to have slipped down the pecking order, while Lyndon Dykes is very much an impact substitute rather than a starter.
The likelihood is that only Dykes could make way in January to allow Blues to reinforce their forward line.
Dykes, 30, almost sealed a transfer to Hibernian at the end of the summer transfer window and now that Scotland have qualified for the World Cup he has a decision to make.
When discussing the possibilities of the January window on the Keep Right On Podcast, Alex Dicken suggested Dykes could be the domino to fall to allow Blues to sign a new striker this winter.
He said: “Based on the summer transfer window and Dykes was keen to move at the end of it, I think that’s the obvious one. With Scotland going to the World Cup, that’s an obvious one, although I’m not sure it would make a great deal of difference.
“He is going to be in their squad. It’s just a case of whether he wants to play regularly and get himself in the best possible shape and form for that tournament to make sure he’s the starting striker and not Che Adams or Lawrence Shankland.
“I quite like having Dykes as an option for Blues. He’s been good this season and scored two really important goals, I would be quite happy if Dykes stayed.”
