Prince Harry made an appearance on the new Christmas-themed episode of With Love, Meghan, which was released on Netflix today. The 41-year-old appeared on Meghan’s show as she made her mum’s annual Christmas Eve recipe with her guest, Top Chef star, Tom Colicchio.
As the pair prepared her mum, Doria Ragland’s, Christmas Eve gumbo, Harry interrupted the cooking session. After noticing that she was cooking one of his favourite meals, Harry spoke on the show for the first time.
Although he made a quick cameo in series one, Harry did not appear in series two – but made sure to come out in celebration of his wife’s show in the latest episode.
Praising his mother-in-law, whom he is known to be very close to, Harry appeared to jokingly insult his wife’s cooking skills – telling her that he preferred Doria’s version of the gumbo.
Gumbo is a soul food recipe rooted in Doria’s family history, with Meghan revealing that her mum enjoys making it for the family every Christmas Eve.
As he smells the gumbo, Harry says: “You must have known I was coming. Gumbo is one of my favourites — especially her mum’s. But before the fish goes in.”
Trying to see if the spicier version made on the show matches up to Doria’s, Harry says: “I can feel it puncturing through the top of my head!” – before admitting that he prefers her mum’s recipe.
Speaking to Meghan, Harry said: “I’m not so sure it’s as good as your mum’s, but it’s certainly close”.
Stunned by Harry’s honesty, Meghan said: “What?! Oh my gosh. Well, my mom will love you for that.”
She then added that his praise was a good idea, and was a lovely thing to say about her mum. She told him: “You know what? What a good thing to say for your mother-in-law.”
