The creators of the original production of Billy Elliot The Musical, including director Stephen Daldry, are set to revive the show in London.

Details on dates and location, including whether Billy Elliot will return to London’s West End or another London venue, are to be announced.

Producers are searching for young actors to play the main children’s parts in Billy Elliot, including Billy, Michael and Debbie.

Casting for the forthcoming run of the multi award-winning hit show is led by Casting Director Jessica Ronane, who is the Casting Director at Second Half Productions.

The original production of Billy Elliot The Musical has been seen by over 12 million people worldwide, and has won over 80 international awards including four Olivier Awards and ten Tony Awards.

The stage show is based on the hugely successful film, which starred Jamie Bell and is part of the Studiocanal catalogue. Studiocanal are the co-producers of Paddington The Musical, and recently launched a stage production company.

Billy Elliot The Musical has a book and lyrics by Lee Hall, and music by Elton John.

The musical’s original creative team are reuniting for the revival, including director Stephen Daldry, who also directed the film, choreographer Peter Darling, scenic designer Ian MacNeil, costume designer Nicky Gillibrand, lighting designer Rick Fisher and sound designer Paul Arditti. Musical supervision and orchestrations are by Martin Koch.

Set in a northern mining town against the background of the 1984 and 1985 miners’ strike, the story follows Billy’s journey from boxing to ballet class where he discovers a passion for dance that inspires his family and whole community and changes his life forever.

Casting Director Jessica Ronane said in a statement: “We are delighted to be starting a new nationwide search to find our next generation of boys to play Billy Elliot. Following in the footsteps of some of the most beloved stars whose careers were launched by this extraordinary production.”

The last major production was Leicester Curve’s show in 2022, directed by Nikolai Foster.
