HBO Max has confirmed it is set to roll-out in the U.K. and Ireland in March next year.
Casey Bloys, HBO Max CEO, unveiled the launch window for the first time at a presentation in London, U.K., where he said he was “excited to announce” the launch.
Earlier on Wednesday the streamer confirmed it is coming to Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein on Jan. 13.
For the first time, viewers in these territories will be able to enjoy content from HBO, Warner Bros. Pictures, Warner Bros. Television, the DC Universe and Max Originals all in one place. Some of the streamer’s most popular shows include “The Pitt,” “It: Welcome to Derry,” “House of the Dragon,” “The Last of Us,” “The White Lotus” and “Euphoria,” while movie offerings include “Superman,” “The Batman,” “Dune” and the “Harry Potter” franchise. The news also comes in time for the Olympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026, which will broadcast live on HBO Max from Feb. 6 to 22.
The launch of the streamer in the U.K. will mark the first time HBO content will primarily be available in the U.K. somewhere other than Sky, given the two conglomerates’ long-standing output deal.
Through an expanded agreement announced last year, HBO content will still be available to watch on Sky for free even after HBO Max’s U.K. and Ireland launch. During a Content London panel on Wednesday, Sky executive director of scripted originals Meghan Lyvers assured that the company’s strategy would not be distracted by the change and instead things are “business as usual.”
