As Eidos-Montreal struggles through another round of layoffs, light has been shone on what the studio may have been up to behind the scenes.
Frustratingly, it sounds like one of the developer’s projects was some kind of Legacy of Kain or Soul Reaver reboot, which ended up being cancelled at an unspecified point.
Indeed, a former employee’s CV mentions a “dark fantasy action RPG” — which could be anything — but it then goes on to clarify that the game “focused on reviving an established vampire IP”.
Of course, Eidos-Montreal’s parent company is Embracer Group — the troubled entity that currently owns the rights to the Legacy of Kain franchise. It released Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered for PS5 and PS4 roughly one year ago.
Earlier this year, there were reports that Eidos-Montreal had been pitching a new Deus Ex title, but potential publishers apparently weren’t interested.
It’s worth mentioning, then, that the aforementioned CV also notes a cancelled “sci-fi stealth game”, which could be related to the dormant cyberpunk property.

Robert (or Rob if you’re lazy) is an assistant editor of Push Square, and has been a fan of PlayStation since the 90s, when Tekken 2 introduced him to the incredible world of video games. He still takes his fighting games seriously, but RPGs are his true passion. The Witcher, Persona, Dragon Quest, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, Trails, Tales — he’s played ’em all. A little too much, some might say.
