EXCLUSIVE: We are hearing that Netflix UK, after a bidding war with eight active parties, has prevailed with the Hal Ozsan written feature project Alpha. I’m told that Rocketman and Netflix Carry-On star Taron Egerton is circling, and that the project was snapped up for him.
Netflix declined to comment.
Alpha is billed as a fun, sexy, elevated genre title that explores the world of toxic masculinity, greed, and the mythos of success, a cross between American Psycho, the HBO Max series Industry and American Werewolf in London. In Alpha, a mild-mannered American analyst climbs the ranks of a ruthless London investment firm, only to discover a horror more frightening than the industry itself: the insatiable monster awakening within him.
Adam Goldworm’s Aperture Entertainment and Tory Tunnell and Joby Harold’s Safehouse are producing.
Ozsan was the frontman of a rock band called Poetry for Pornstars which opened for acts such as GnR. As an actor he has along list of credits including Dawson’s Creek, 90210, The Black List and Jessica Jones. The Aperture Entertainment, Luber Roklin, CAA, Independent Talent Group, Gang, Tyre, Ramer, Brown & Passman repped multi-hyphenate is developing a rally racing car series The Distance with 87 North and Universal for David Leitch to direct. He completed an Apple mini-room for Breaking Eden with Johnny Stockwood and Mark Denton (Slow Horses). He previously developed Harem at MGM Studios and Proxy at Anonymous. He Co-EP’d the James Vanderbeek Viceland series What Would Diplo Do.
Goldworm has several project set at Netflix including Hannibal starring Denzel Washington with Antoine Fuqua directing and Grady Hendrix’s The Blanks. Goldworm is also producing Ankle Snatcher at Sony and How to Sell a Haunted House at Legendary and he is post on Dennis Widmyer & Kevin Kolsch’s The Swallow.
Safehouse Pictures credits include, but are not limited to Novocaine, the A24 documentary Andre Is an Idiot, Netflix’s global number one hit Atlas starring Jennifer Lopez, Sterling K. Brown and Simu Liu. They are currently in post-production on season 2 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters for Apple TV+ starring Kurt Russell, Anna Sawai, Wyatt Russell and in prep on a spinoff for Apple. They previously produced season 1 on Monarch, which was a smash hit for Apple TV +, resulting in Safehouse now developing a universe of Monsterverse spinoffs.
Harold wrote and EP’ed Disney+’s Star Wars series Obi-Wan Kenobi, and he co-wrote Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, The Flash at Warner Bros DC, and Netflix’s Army of the Dead for director Zack Snyder. Safehouse is currently in active development on a variety of projects including Backwards with Shawn Levy for Netflix, World War II action-drama The Liberators with Michael B. Jordan, Battle of Britain for Ridley Scott, The Hider with Robert Downey Jr. alongside Team Downey for Universal, among many more.
Primetime Emmy nominee Egerton is repped by Range Media Partners, United Agents, and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
