Miley Cyrus Reveals Details About Surprise Engagement
Miley Cyrus is opening up about her surprise engagement to Maxx Morando.
On Dec. 1, the three-time Grammy Award-winning singer was spotted at the Avatar: Fire and Ash world premiere in Los Angeles wearing a unique, bold cushion-cut diamond ring on a 14-karat yellow gold band.
Now, Miley shared more details with ABC News about her engagement to the drummer for the band Liily, who surprised her during a recent trip to Japan.
“I am not easy to surprise, because I love to control every situation. And I had completely surrendered. And I’m telling you I was so, so surprised,” Miley told host Chris Connelly. “I actually had never gone to Japan, which I did that purposefully. I wanted one place in the world that could be my special place that I saved for me.”
Miley and Maxx have been together for four years, and according to the “Flowers” singer, their 2025 engagement is happening at the right time, as her new song, “Dream As One,” is featured in Avatar: Fire and Ash. The opening lyrics for the song are: “Our love will never fade away / We’re diamonds in the dark / I put my head against your chest / And listen to your heart.”
“My life has been perfectly aligned with the release of Avatar, my personal life — those two things kind of, I guess you could say, marrying each other and harmonizing with one another,” Miley said.
“When I came back home, I went straight into the Pandora/Avatar world,” Miley continued. “People think of it as a film that’s larger than life. It’s this grand scale, but actually at the heart of Avatar, it’s really about relationships, love, having each other’s back. And so it actually felt very aligned with my life.”
Miley was very forthcoming about the bond she built with Maxx over the years, which led to her serendipitous milestone. “Me and Maxx have been together for four years, and it’s very obvious the drastic amount of growth that I’ve had in those four years,” she said. “You just want to dream the biggest you can, and you want to have someone by your side that always tells you you can do it.”
In the interview, Miley praised Avatar director James Cameron, noting what it felt like to include such an emotional and very relevant song. “It’s pretty unbelievable to have something that feels almost like a journal entry [with] something as large-scale as Avatar,” she said. “I was able to watch the film. I understood the trials of each character. But Jim just really wanted it to feel like the way that I always write a diary entry.”
We’ll definitely keep you updated if Miley and Maxx comment on their engagement further.
