PLANS have been approved by the City of Edinburgh Council for a new playground on the grounds of a new Edinburgh Park residential development.

The playground is envisioned to be another step in a “masterplan” for underutilised land in the area to be converted into a private residential and mixed-use development.

This masterplan, first proposed in 2022, is an ambitious plan to convert disused ground in and around Edinburgh Park into a vast new community. Construction began in 2025.

The playground will be constructed on land adjacent to Lochside Way in Edinburgh Park and will feature a polygonal climbing frame attached to a slide and a few other children’s play features.

Work to build almost 400 new homes on land owned by Parabola, a property developer based in Edinburgh Park, commenced earlier this year.

In addition to the homes, the development will also feature Patina, a £2.4m bar, restaurant, artisanal bakery and live music venue; facilities for padel and a multi-use-games area for tennis, five-a-side football, netball and basketball as well as a water cascade, lochan and ten sculpture installations.

The playpark, which is coloured in vibrant greens and reds, is envisioned to be a crucial component to the future development, and “entirely consistent with the consented masterplan proposal”.

The park will be constructed “100 metres south of 1 Airborne Place, Edinburgh”, adjacent to where future apartment complexes will be built.

Commercial property consultants Montagu Evans, who submitted the application on behalf of Parabola, provided a cover letter.

It read: “The council granted planning permission for the remaining southern phase of Edinburgh Park, which includes proposals for a high quality, sustainable and mixed use residential-led development, subject to a variety of conditions and the conclusion of a legal agreement, on 11 January 2022.

“The submitted planning application seeks permission for the development of a children’s playground which is intended to be delivered as a meanwhile use as the masterplan is developed.

“The playground proposal will be sited adjacent to New Park Square.”

Montagu Evans added: “The proposed development is considered entirely consistent with the consented masterplan proposal and consequently is considered to be supported by the development plan.”

Parabola are based in the Edinburgh Park business park and own the adjacent land earmarked for redevelopment.

Parabola has been approached for comment.
