A man has been arrested after the death of a young woman who was allegedly struck by a car in a “hit-and-run”. Emergency services raced to the scene after the crash happened at a crossing island near to Burger King and Starbucks on Castlebank Street at Glasgow Harbour.
Police and ambulance crews attended after the alarm was raised at around 8.45pm on Tuesday, December 2. The female pedestrian was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital but tragically died a short time after arriving.
An investigation was launched to track down the vehicle involved which was travelling west on Castlebank Street at the time of the incident. Officers have now confirmed the car, which left the scene prior to police arrival, has been traced.

A 49-year-old man has been arrested in connection and enquiries are ongoing. Photos taken at the crash site show a heavy police presence near the entrance to the Burger King, situated a stone’s throw from the Clydeside Expressway.
Officers dressed in black could be seen pacing the street while others stood guard. The entire area was taped off and signs erected to keep drivers and pedestrians away from the vicinity.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “A man has been arrested in connection with a fatal crash on Castlebank Street in Glasgow. The crash happened around 8.45pm on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at a crossing island near to the entrance for Burger King and Starbucks.
“The female pedestrian was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital but pronounced dead a short time after arrival. The car left the scene prior to police arrival and was later traced.
“The road was closed to allow enquiries to be carried out and has since re-opened. A 49-year-old man has been arrested in connection and enquiries are ongoing.”
