Police have issued an update after a woman who was pulled from a Manchester canal died in hospital. Officers attended the Bridgewater Canal on Saturday morning (November 29) following reports of a body in the water near Kelso Place, in Castlefield.

A large cordon was put in place near the St George’s Island flats. Multiple Greater Manchester Police officers, including crime scene investigators, were seen in attendance.

GMP said a female was pulled from the water at around 9am before being taken to hospital, where she sadly died. In an update, the force has confirmed the person was a 33-year-old woman.

GMP also confirmed that there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the incident. An area on Kelso Place remained taped off until around 2.45pm on Saturday as enquiries took place.

Forensics investigators were seen gathering photographic evidence, while several GMP vehicles attended the scene. A coronial investigation is now likely to take place.
