A handful of senior royals, celebrities, and the British Prime Minister came together last night for a fancy dinner at Windsor Castle to mark the first German state visit in nearly three decades.
Between the glistening outfits (see: Kate Middleton‘s sparkling tiara and diamond drop earrings) and the famous faces in attendance (read: Claudia Schiffer), there was plenty for royal fans to talk about. But, the most surprising of all? Kate’s protocol-breaking kiss with Queen Camilla.
Ahead of the dinner, Kate greeted her mother-in-law outside Windsor Castle. The Princess of Wales dipped into an elegant curtsey before embracing Camilla and leaning in for a kiss on the cheek. Per royal protocol, public displays of affection between royals are usually frowned upon as they are expected to remain ‘professional’.

That protocol appears to have gone out the window quite a few times recently, as Kate also gave King Charles a peck on the cheek earlier this year. This could be part of her alleged “shift” in perspective when it comes to royal life.
“Kate understands now that life’s too short to keep agreeing to every demand,” a senior royal source told RadarOnline. “Her cancer battle really shifted her perspective,” the insider added, explaining that Kate wants to “put her family, her wellbeing, and her peace of mind first.”
“She’s stopped trying to please everyone,” the source went on, revealing that the Princess has “finally learned the power of saying no.”
“Now she understands she can serve without losing herself in the process,” they continued, nodding to Kate’s quiet rebellion and apparent decision to “resist royal expectations.”
Perhaps then, we’ll see more and more royal kisses in the future…
