The best places in Scotland to propose this festive season have been revealed. Topping the list is a beautiful island known for its romantic scenery. Christmas is a popular time to pop the question, with the frosty weather and twinkling lights providing the perfect backdrop.
From historic cities to ancient wilderness, Scotland is not short of lovely places to propose. On Wednesday, December 4, House of Bruar shared a roundup of the 10 most picturesque spots to propose in Scotland. The experts based their list on the number of Instagram hashtags each location has.
The top place in Scotland to propose has been revealed to be the Isle of Skye. According to House of Bruar, the Inner Hebrides island has 1,100,000 Instagram hashtags attributed to it. The Isle of Skye is renowned for its jaw-dropping landscapes and charming fishing villages. Over the winter, it is not unusual to see snow on the island—adding to the romantic atmosphere.

The experts singled out Skye beauty spots such as the Old Man of Storr and the Fairy Pools in particular as top proposal destinations. The Old Man of Storr is a mountain on the Trotternish peninsula that is famous for its magnificent views, while the Fairy Pools are a series of aqua-blue rock pools of mountain spring water fed by a series of waterfalls.
House of Bruar commented: “Taking the top spot with an impressive 1.1 million Instagram hashtags, the Isle of Skye, located in the Scottish Highlands, offers some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world. Known for its dramatic landscape, the island is home to iconic locations such as the Old Man of Storr, the Fairy Pools, and the Quiraing, each providing a spectacular natural backdrop for a proposal.

“According to Scottish folklore, Skye is home to fairies and mystical creatures, adding an extra touch of magic to your special moment. The island’s wild beauty makes it an ideal destination for couples seeking an adventurous, intimate proposal away from the crowds.”
Elsewhere, Edinburgh Castle is the second-best place in Scotland to propose this festive season according to House of Bruar. The historic castle was found to have 784,000 Instagram hashtags.
Edinburgh Castle has dominated the city’s skyline for centuries, with some parts of the structure dating back to the 12th century.
Between December 5 and January 4, it will be hosting the Castle of Light: Fire and Ice light show—offering a colourful backdrop to a proposal.

The experts stated: “Proposing here brings the potential for celebratory photos against stunning city views, and the surrounding Princes Street Gardens offer quieter spots if you prefer a more intimate moment, with the iconic fortress as your backdrop.”
The third-best spot in Scotland to propose this winter according to House of Bruar is Glen Coe. The spectacular glen, which cuts though volcanic rocks in the Highlands, was found to have 674,000 hashtags.
Rounding out the top five on House of Bruar’s list are Loch Lomond and Arthur’s Seat. The former has 639,000 Instagram hashtags, while the ancient extinct volcano that overlooks Edinburgh has 316,000.
Other places in Scotland that were named among the best for a festive proposal by House of Bruar are the isles of Isle of Mull, Arran, and Harris, placing seventh, eighth, and ninth respectively. Completing the experts’ list is Dean Village in Edinburgh at number 10.
