A road was cordoned off this evening following a police chase. Shortly before 4pm on Tuesday, April 29, police on patrol spotted a man riding a suspected stolen electric bike in “suspicious circumstances” on Stalbridge Avenue and Nicander Road, Mossley Hill.

The man, in his 30s, is then reported to have then left the bike and ran off on foot. Following a police chase on foot along Balcarres Avenue, police said the man complained of feeling unwell.

He was taken to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition. An investigation into the incident is underway and witness and CCTV enquiries are being carried out in the local area.

One resident who lives in the area described how he saw a “heavy police presence” at around 6pm. He told the ECHO: “There was about three police cars and a couple of unmarked cars.

“They blocked all the road off here [Stalbridge Avenue] and they blocked all under the bridge. It was all blocked off for about two hours so there must have been some sort of danger.”

Anyone with information which could assist police with their investigation is asked to DM @MerPolCC or call 101 quoting log 687 of April 29.
