Blackburn Rovers welcome Sheffield Wednesday in a game between two sides who’ve started the 2025/26 Championship season poorly.

Valerien Ismael’s Blackburn drew 1-1 with Ipswich Town last time out and now sit in 18th place of the table after a run of one defeat in four, whereas the Owls have lost their last four, with Preston coming from behind to beat Wednesday 3-2 last time out.

Last season, Rovers drew with SWFC 2-2 at Ewood Park and actually picked up a 1-0 win away at Hillsborough. Wednesday won the three meetings before with their last win at Ewood Park coming in 2024. The last time Rovers beat SWFC on home soil was in 2019.

Here, our writers five their score predictions for the game on Saturday…

James Ray

Blackburn Rovers won’t get a much better chance to get a vital home win under their belt. They were hard done by against Ipswich Town, but they have to put that behind them and go again here.

Sheffield Wednesday are doomed; there’s no point in dressing it up. Their latest points deduction means they’re destined for League One, so Henrik Pedersen has a tough task on his hands keeping them fighting on the pitch.

“SWFC have shown they will put in gutsy displays against the odds, but they just lack the quality in attack and solidity when defending to grind out results. I think that will be on show again here. I’ll say Rovers get a much-needed win.”

Prediction: Blackburn Rovers 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday

Luke Phelps

“It’s becoming a real slog for Sheffield Wednesday in terms of what’s happening on the pitch, let alone their ongoing takeover. Henrik Pedersen’s side haven’t been convincing of late but with players coming back from injury over the festive period, there’s hope for a better second half of the season.

“Rovers seem to be shoring up somewhat and come into this game on the back of a decent result. With Wednesday’s disappointing defeat against Preston still fresh in the Owls’ mind, expect Blackburn to view this game as an absolute must-win in their own fight against relegation.

“I think Blackburn will edge this one, but it’ll be a tough game nonetheless.”

Prediction: Blackburn Rovers 2-1 Sheffield Wednesday
