Four men have appeared in court charged in connection with having a guns and dirty cash following an incident near the Hilton Hotel in Glasgow. The incident unfolded at around 8.50pm on Tuesday, December 2, when officers intercepted a car on Newton Street near its junction with William Street – just yards from the hotel and close to Anderston Station.

Police Scotland later confirmed four men who had previously been arrested, were then charged. James Britton, 34, Cade Johnson, 27, Marcus Taylor, 27 and Lewis Davies, 22, appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday, December 4.

Britton, from Manchester, was charged with seven offences including having a firearm in a public place as well as being in possession of a blade and controlled drugs. He was also charged in connection with acquiring, using and being in possession of criminal property.

Johnson, from Manchester, was charged with 11 offences including being in possession of a firearm and having a blade as well as acquiring, using and being in possession of criminal property. He also faced five separate charges of failing to comply with a serious crime prevention order – also known as a Super ASBO.

Taylor, from Manchester, and Davies, of no fixed abode, both faced six charges including being in possession of a firearm, having a blade, and acquiring, using and being in possession of criminal property. All four made no plea during a private hearing.

They were remanded in custody and committed for further examination. Their next court date will be within the next eight days. A significant police response followed the arrests, with officers sealing off the area outside the hotel.

The cordon stretched across a section of grass within the Hilton grounds and remained in place into Wednesday morning as enquiries continued. Cones and signage were erected along Newton Street and William Street to prevent vehicles and pedestrians from entering the scene.

One eyewitness, who passed the hotel shortly before 9am on Wednesday, said: “I was just walking into work when I noticed blue flashing lights and a police cordon outside the Hilton Hotel. A large area was taped off and I spotted three police vehicles on the scene. Police had also blocked off William Street at its junction with Newton Street.”

The location sits just off Argyle Street, one of Glasgow’s busiest routes, making the cordon highly visible to commuters and hotel guests. A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.50pm on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, officers stopped a vehicle in Newton Street at the junction of William Street in Glasgow.

“Four men aged, 34, 27, 27 and 22 have been arrested and charged in connection with firearm offences and the Proceed of Crime Act. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal, and they are expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday, December 4, 2025.”
