In a heartfelt statement posted on social media, the independent small business reminded customers that staff are “real people with real feelings behind the scenes”.

A spokesperson wrote: “We aren’t a huge faceless company and we don’t wish to be treated as such.

“We will not tolerate the abuse of our staff, whether it’s in person, online, via website submission, on the street or in the shop.”

The bakery also highlighted the pressures hospitality workers face throughout the busy festive period. “Please show them some kindness, patience, dignity and respect while they do their very best to ensure everyone gets the best service they can deliver,” the post continued.

Lannan thanked its loyal customers for their support and expressed hope that the bakery would continue to serve the Stockbridge community for days to come.

The statement comes just three days after Lannan shared a job posting for two “security hosts” to join the team.

The security host position is described as the “first point of contact for all guests entering the bakery”, and the role responsibilities include providing a warm and attentive welcome, managing the queue, and helping to maintain a “safe, respectful, and comfortable atmosphere both outside and inside the venue.”

In June, the bakery issued a statement denying claims that they had hired “a bouncer” to manage the queue.

They said in a statement: “Hi there, just to let you know this is false information.

“We haven’t hired a bouncer. We have hired an extra member of front of house staff who tends to the queue every morning with refreshments and menus. They also ensure the pavement is safe for pedestrians to pass.

“We don’t have a licence to hire security professionals.”
