A Bristol shoplifter risked reoffending just days after being warned that he would end up in jail if he was caught again.

Brandon Weyman, from Clouds Hill Road in St George, is now behind bars after losing his last chance to avoid custody.

The 32-year-old was sentenced on Tuesday, November 25 to a year in prison. He was convicted at Bristol Magistrates’ Court just days after being given a suspended prison sentence for similar offences.

Avon and Somerset Police report that he was convicted at the same court on Thursday, November 20 for thefts from various shops across Bristol, which took place between October 20 and November 18.

For those 27 charges of shop theft, he was sentenced to a 12-month jail term, suspended for 18 months – meaning he could have avoided prison, as long as he did not reoffend during that 18-month period.

However, within days he was caught again. Weyman has since pleaded guilty to five more thefts and a breach of a Criminal Behaviour Order and has been sentenced to an additional four months in prison, which will run concurrently alongside the suspended prison sentence that has been implemented.

Neighbourhood inspector Richard Jones said: “Because Weyman has a flagrant disregard for people and their property, he has reoffended during the operational period of his suspended sentence and has therefore gone straight to prison.

“This demonstrates our determination to relentlessly pursue prolific offenders to get them before a court so justice can be served.

“Having him back in court within a week of his previous sentence is testament to the neighbourhood team, which will continue to help protect the retailers and staff who have repeatedly suffered at the hands of Weyman.”
