A grateful family has praised a hospital for making a much-loved mum’s final wish come true. Laura Hyndman sadly died on Friday, November 28, around two years after she was diagnosed with gall bladder and liver cancer. The mother-of-two was 47.

Two days before her death, she married her long-term partner, Sam Hyndman, inside the chapel at North Manchester General Hospital.

Her daughter, Olivia Harding, and sister, Carla Brindle, have spoken out to thank the hospital and its staff, saying they went ‘above and beyond’ and ‘pulled out all the stops’ to make the service possible.

Laura – nee Brindle – and Sam were married on Wednesday, November 28. She returned home to Langley, Middleton, later the same day after the service in an ambulance which had been specially decorated by the hospital with balloons.

Sister Carla, 58, said: “The hospital were amazing, absolutely amazing and we cannot thank them enough for everything that they did for us. Laura smiled throughout the whole day. It was absolutely unbelievable – that something so good could come out of something so traumatic.”

Daughter Olivia, 26, added: “We want to say a massive thanks to everyone at the hospital. It was her final wish – and it came true. We spent her wedding night at home as a close family of four, then had the family around her for her final two days at home.”

The family have also spoken out to thank family and friends who raced against time to get everything organised. Carla said: “It was something that as a family we had all been talking about. The hospital told us that sadly, there was nothing else that they could do for Laura and we had to take her home. It was on the Tuesday night that it all started.

“We had a word with the matron, Alison on ward C4 at the hospital, and asked if there was any way of making it happen. From the Tuesday night, it was all systems go.

“Alison the matron went above and beyond. All the nurses and everyone at the hospital were amazing. They said they would make it happen, but time was not on our side. In the end, Laura and Sam did it, and it was just brilliant. The hospital put all the steps together. The chaplain got hold of a registrar and got access to the chapel in the hospital’s grounds. “

Carla, from Middleton, said they rang around the family and told as many people as they could. “Everyone dropped everything,” she said. “There were about 65 people there at the ceremony in the end.”

She said they bought matching dresses for Laura and her daughter Paisley, aged eight, who was a maid of honour. Bouquets of flowers were sourced and rings for both Sam and Laura bought from a jeweller’s.

Carla said the hospital even put extra blinds around bays on the ward so Laura could have her hair and make-up done by a friend. Pictures taken at the service released by the family to the Manchester Evening News show a beaming Laura saying ‘I do’ as Sam puts her wedding ring onto her finger.

Carla said: “She was poorly, but knew everything that was going on. The consultant made the porters put blinds up over two bays on the ward so we could get ready. The chapel was covered in fairy lights and it was lovely.”

Laura was well-known in Middleton as an eyelash technician and a beauty therapist, said her daughter Olivia. She had also worked as a driving instructor.

Olivia said: “The hospital made it happen, and we can’t thank them enough. We would like to thank Alison, the matron of ward C4, and the rest of the staff on the ward. Louise, a good family friend who also works in the hospital made sure mum got the best care and made sure we were able to get her home with her family.

“We also want to thank Debby Bailey from Tayler James Flowers in Heywood for putting together a bridal bouquet and button holes at such short notice, and gifting them for free.

“I also want to thank Carla, Ashley, Daniella and Stacey for going out and getting the rings and the outfits. Mum was always happy and always positive – and we want to thank everyone for making her dream come true.”
