The pupils from Hillcrest Academy entertained the residents of Downham Grange Nursing Home with a range of Christmas carols and a crafts session.

The event was organised by deputy head Dave Martin, who said: “Opportunities like this remind us of what a school community is truly about.

“When children share their voices, their time and their creativity with residents, they’re not just spreading festive cheer, they’re building bridges across generations.”

Olivia Barber, a 10-year-old student, spoke about the joy she felt seeing the residents’ reactions. She said: “To sing and see the residents faces light up with joy – we all enjoy it as much as they do.”

Downham Grange care home manager Kelly Bermingham was thrilled with the success of the initiative.

She said: “Intergenerational community visits are so beneficial to our residents, connecting young and old and building confidence whilst enhancing life skills – just wonderful.”

The event concluded with the students enjoying refreshments with the residents.
