Almost 20,000 drivers have been caught by speed cameras on a Birmingham road this year.

The main roads is the city’s speeding hotspot, where motorists are caught in highest numbers by speed cameras.

It means this is the area where Brummies are most likely to be caught by average speed cameras.

The worst road for speeding is A4540 New John Street West.

A huge 9,859 were caught between Lucas Circus and Hospital Street, and another 8,669 going in the opposite direction.

It means over 18,500 motorists were caught speeding by average speed cameras along this road.

Another hotspot is Lee Bank Middleway/Belgrave Middleway,

A total of 9,970 offences were recorded towards Haden Circus Roundabout, and another 3,511 heading towards Fiveways Island.

These are among the busiest roads in the heart of Birmingham.

New John Street has the highest number of fines this year for a single route, data obtained by BirminghamLive from West Midlands Police, showed, making it the city’s number one road for speeding fines in 2025, up to the end of November.

New John Street West runs from the Hockley Circus roundabout and towards Dartmouth Circus and the Aston Expressway.

Lee Bank Middleway and Belgrave Middleway runs south of the city centre, passing the Bristol Road.

They both get incredibly busy and are used by thousands of motorists every day.

Birmingham’s average speed cameras continue to catch drivers in large numbers, with more to be added to roads next year.

It’s part of safety measures which will also see speed limits cut to 30mph on a number of main routes.
