Two men have been arrested after a gunman opened fire outside a house in Salford. The ‘shocking’ incident happened on Wally Square in Higher Broughton at around 6:50pm on Thursday evening (December 4).
It is believed a man – who arrived on an electric bike with another man – ‘walked up to a property before discharging the firearm’ Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.
A woman in her 20s suffered an injury in the incident which the force has described as ‘minor.’ Exactly how she sustained the incident is still being investigated, they added.
Emergency services attended the scene immediately afterwards, with an investigation being launched.
GMP say ‘there is not believed to be any wider threat to the community.’
Two men, aged 24 and 28, have since been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. They remain in custody for questioning. “Enquiries are ongoing” the force said.
Detectives are now appealing for any witnesses or anyone with CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell footage from the area at the time of the incident to come forward.
DI Louise Edwards, from GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “Any report of a firearms discharge is shocking and is something that will never be tolerated on the streets of Greater Manchester.
“We have been working at pace since Thursday and we now have made two arrests as part of our enquiries. Further work is to be completed in the coming hours and days.
“While we are still establishing the exact circumstances, this was a dangerous act that could have resulted in a much worse or deadly outcome. No-one should feel unsafe or threatened in their own homes, and we are working to ensure those responsible face justice.”
