The National Gallery in London has unveiled the shortlist for a new wing to support the museum’s expanding collection. The project forms part of Project Domani, the museum’s £750 million ($1 billion) overhaul, which aims to make it “the only place in the world where visitors can view the entire history of painting in the Western tradition.”

The Gallery’s wing will be built on the site of the last remaining part of the National Gallery’s current campus: St Vincent House at 30 Orange Street. The property was acquired by the gallery nearly 30 years ago for the purpose of expanding gallery space and currently houses a hotel and office complex.

The international competition for the new wing attracted 65 submissions. The six shortlisted firms will now take part in a design competition, with the final architect and wider technical team appointed by April 2026.
