Two people were taken to hospital after a stall on Leeds Christmas Market collapsed. The market was closed for safety reasons after the Ranch Bar stall, in City Square, came crashing down on Friday evening.

The stall’s collapse was caught on camera by a passer-by at about 5.40pm. Two people were taken to hospital as a precaution.

After the market structures were investigated for further weaknesses, the market operators were ‘content’ to reopen the market today (Saturday, December 6) – but the Ranch Bar has remained closed.

A Market Place spokesperson said: “Leeds Christmas Market on City Square closed last evening after an incident involving the partial collapse of a small section of roof in the Ranch Bar. The Market was immediately closed for the safety of visitors and traders.

“Those at the scene were understandably shaken, thankfully no one incurred serious injury, however two individuals were assisted in being transported to hospital via taxi as a precaution.

“An investigation as to the cause of the incident was immediately undertaken and review of all structures in the market took place. Operators are now content that the City Square’s attractions are safe to open as normal today. The Ranch Bar will remain closed until a follow up inspection and repairs are completed.”
