A passenger suffered minor injuries after yobs smashed the windows of a Metrolink tram. Services were suspended between Victoria and Bury following the incident on Saturday night.
It came after an object was thrown at a tram near Prestwich, shattering ‘several’ windows. Trams were initially suspended from Victoria and Bury, before the line closure was reduced to between Crumpsall and Bury.
All services reopened after around two hours. The closure left came on one of the busiest nights of the year in Manchester city centre, with the Christmas markets on, Manchester City at home and huge gigs at both the AO and Co-op Live arenas.
Metrolink tickets were accepted on local bus services. Services resumed shortly before 8pm with some residual delays.
