A British Airways flight bound for Heathrow Airport declared a “general emergency” right after departing Edinburgh Airport (EDI) and is now parked on the runway, stopping other flights from landing.

According to flight tracking site Flightradar24, the flight – BA1443 – was scheduled to leave Scotland at 11am on Monday (December 8), but departed just under 15 minutes late.

Just minutes into the flight, the Airbus A320 squawked 7700 – the universal aviation transponder code for a general emergency.

The aircraft, with the registration G-EUUI, then circled at around 6,500 feet above the city of Stirling in a holding pattern for around 35 minutes.

The flight then returned to Edinburgh, touching down just after 12.15pm on Monday.
