DC could see the return of the Snyderverse in some form at Netflix, but after a new update on the status of Warner Bros. Discovery’s sales process and Paramount’s role in it, even those small chances seem like they could be gone before long. James Gunn’s DC Universe is successful so far, with multiple TV hits and Superman turning a profit.

That said, a group of DC fans continues to advocate for Zack Snyder’s DC franchise to return on Netflix, where the director has released many projects over the last few years. After Netflix announced it was buying Warner Bros., having won the bidding war for the studio, it seemed like the Snyderverse’s return chances had increased. However, a major Paramount update changes things.

Paramount Is Not Letting Netflix Easily Win Over Warner Bros.

While Netflix’s bid was accepted by Warner, with the company even sharing with its subscribers an explanation of the process and what changes could come from it, Paramount is not accepting defeat. Paramount Skydance has formally announced today, December 8, that it has come up with a new offer, all in cash, to acquire both the studios and Global Networks segments of Warner Bros. Discovery.

Paramount’s new offer is valued at $30 per share, for a total enterprise value of $108.4 billion, which includes debt and other variables. That is bigger than Netflix’s $82.7 billion enterprise value. Paramount is then taking a more aggressive approach, launching a public offer for WBD shareholders to analyze after being defeated by Netflix in the private bidding war.

According to a statement from the Chairman and CEO of Paramount, David Ellison, the studio’s offer for Warner Bros. Discovery “provides superior value, and a more certain and quicker path to completion” than Netflix’s. If Paramount were to be successful in its attempt of a hostile takeover of the company, then those interested in the DC Snyderverse’s return chances might not be happy.

When DC Snyderverse Fans Could Know For Sure If Warner Bros. Will Walk Back On The Netflix Deal

Warner has since commented on Paramount’s takeover bid (via Variety), with an official statement claiming that no modifications to the Netflix agreement are being made at the moment. That said, Warner Bros. Discovery revealed that it will review Paramount’s new proposal and get back with a decision within ten business days. Those looking for where DC lands in all this have a new deadline in mind.

According to Netflix co-CEOs, Ted Sarandos and Greg Peters, Netflix’s deal with Warner should stand. They said, “Today’s move was entirely expected. We have a deal done… We’re super confident we’re going to get it across the line and finish.”

Given Snyder’s previous projects at Netflix, the studio is the only home that makes sense for a possible Snyderverse revival, be it in animation or a one-off project. As such, should Paramount end up buying Warner, what are already small chances of the Snyderverse returning, given multiple Snyder projects were cancelled by Netflix, would likely then be gone for good.
