Away from Leeds United, Pablo Hernandez’s first permanent stint in senior management could not be going any better at Castellon.
Pablo Hernandez’s exit from Leeds United was a really emotional one for me. I’m 27, and I have not seen a player with such genius in my time avidly following the club.
That being said, his story continued in a very wholesome way, returning to his hometown club Castellon. First, he was saw out the latter stages of his playing career. Now, he’s dipped into management thanks to inspiration from Marcelo Bielsa.

Pablo Hernandez thriving as Castellon’s permanent manager after recent appointment
Having taken up a role as Castellon B’s head coach, Hernandez was thrust into the first team when he became interim manager, replacing Johan Plat initially.
In eight league games on a temporary basis, Hernandez collected four wins and two draws for a total of 14 points. As a result, he earned the job on permanent terms with his side sat 12th at the time.
A permanent contract hasn’t stopped Hernandez’s rapid rise into the LaLiga2 promotion picture, though. 11 games in and he’s picked up 23 points to sit fifth, currently in a playoff spot as it stands.

Most recently, he secured win last time out against second-placed Deportivo La Coruna, dismantling Leeds’ 2001 Champions League opponents with a resounding 3-1 away win. Marca’s review of Hernandez’s setup speaks volumes for his exciting progression into management.
“The visiting team dominated the game and possession. Pablo Hernández’s team is designed to attack the opponent’s goal,” Marca wrote. “Pablo Hernández’s team was putting on a masterclass in attacking football.”
Leeds United must be keeping an eye on Pablo Hernandez’s amazing managerial work
For me, the rate at which Hernandez is driving Castellon into the promotion picture is definitely worth keeping a close eye on.
At the moment, it seems like Daniel Farke has battled his way through an incredibly challenging period to retain his job. Even if he’s not totally out of the woods.
That being said, I for one am really intrigued to see how Hernandez develops into a senior coach over in Spain. Because, it seems an inevitable situation where he’s being linked with a move to Elland Road.
I’m not for a minute saying we get him in any time soon. But, should the time come, he might be someone the 49ers are already monitoring.
