Wales is once again under threat from rising waters, as mulitple flood warnings and alerts are in place, covering rivers and coastal zones across the nation.
As of the latest update, Natural Resources Wales (NRW) lists 12 flood warnings and 59 flood alerts across Wales. A flood warning indicates that there is a serious risk of flooding to property, and thus immediate action is required.
If you are about to flood, NRW says you should do the following:
- Get your flood kit.
- Prepare to move people and pets in your property to a safe place.
- Move important, sentimental and valuable items.
- Move or weigh down any large or loose items outside or in your garden.
- Put flood gates and other protection equipment in place.
- Turn off gas, electricity, and water.
- Do not touch plugs and other sources of electricity when standing in flood water.
- Move your car to higher ground or outside the flood risk area.
This applies to you if you live near one of the 12 places with a flood warning. These are as follows:
- River Loughor at Ammanford and Llandybie
- River Solva at Solva
- Ilston Brook at Ilston, Gower
- River Cynin at St Clears
- River Lower Clydach at Clydach Bridge
- River Ely at Peterston Super Ely
- Tidal area at Dale
- River Ritec at Tenby
- River Tyweli at Station Road, Llandysul
- River Towy, between Llandeilo and Abergwili
- River Cothi – low lying areas
- River Cothi at Pontargothi and Pontynyswen.

The rest of the country remains under flood alerts. This means flooding is possible, and people should also prepare accordingly.
These include many coastal zones (like parts of Pembrokeshire, Cardigan Bay, and North-West Wales), major river catchments (such as the River Wye, River Dee, and catchments in Gwynedd, Powys, and Ceredigion), and inland catchments such as the Upper Severn catchment in Powys. A Natural Resources Wales spokesperson has issued the following advice: “Please take care if you are travelling this morning and be aware of surface water impacts. We recommend you check your local weather forecast and travel impacts before your journey and monitor your local surroundings.
“Do not walk or drive through floodwater and keep away from swollen riverbanks.
“High tides combined with strong winds could also see very large waves across our coast today and we are advising people to stay clear of promenades and the sea.
“Be prepared for floods and sign up for our warnings.”
Storm Bram arrived in Wales overnight on Monday and into Tuesday as several Met Office warnings came into force across the country.
There are currently three warnings in place which impact Wales until Tuesday evening.
The first is a yellow warning for rain which came into force at 6pm on Monday and will remain in place until 2pm on Tuesday. This covers practically the whole of Wales.
This is in place alongside a yellow warning for wind which covers a huge part of Wales including west Wales, mid Wales and most of north Wales.
Then, an ‘Amber warning’ for rain came into force at midnight until 10am on Tuesday, covering an area of south Wales.
