A Good Morning Britain presenter has received an outpouring of compassion following a devastating announcement regarding a family bereavement.

Reporter Katy Rickitt became part of the established ITV programme back in 2012 in her role as a news correspondent, and has reported on numerous stories throughout her tenure.

Beyond her television work, Katy is wed to performer Adam Rickitt, who gained recognition for his portrayal of Nick Tilsley in ITV’s enduring drama Coronation Street between 1997 and 2004.

The couple’s romance began when Katy conducted an interview with Adam in 2011 during her time at GMB. The duo exchanged vows three years afterwards in a magical winter ceremony in December 2014.

Alongside their respective thriving professional pursuits, Katy and Adam are also proprietors of a specialist bottle shop named Dexter and Jones, situated in Knutsford, Cheshire, reports the Mirror.

Nevertheless, this week saw Katy turn to Instagram to deliver heartbreaking news concerning their cherished four-legged companion: Daphne. Accompanied by a collection of photographs featuring the dog, Katy disclosed that Daphne had tragically passed away, leaving both herself and Adam completely “blindsided” by the loss.

In a touching message, she penned: “I can’t believe I’m actually saying this but goodnight and god bless to our beautiful baby Daphne who passed away last night.

“Many of you know that our eldest Tallulah has been very ill recently but losing Daphne has just blindsided us. She just got a stomach bug, we took her to the emergency vets because she stopped drinking “just incase” … they said she was stable then she just had a heart attack. She was only 5 and the shock and sadness just feels unbearable right now.”

She continued: “I’m terrified I saved the last kisses for T each night because I thought we had all the time in the world with Daphne and now she’s gone it feels like our hearts have been torn apart.

“Daphne was our beautiful baby wobble princess… our Peter Pan who never grew up. She had chronic limb deformity so from the age of 1 we started operating on her legs to help her survive what would have otherwise been crippling arthritis and she was always such a trooper.

“Turns out she still hated walking even after her recovery! But loved being pushed around like a queen in her pram. She was the most gorgeous little diva, barked at us to vacate the sofa at 11pm but absolutely adored Sunday cuddles, sunshine, things on wheels, anything edible (and not) and going to the vets… she twice came to do lives with me there and would then always try to get in the car when I left at 4am!”

Katy concluded her heartfelt post with: “Most of all she just loved to be loved and I hope she knew just how much love we will always have for her. Rest easy princess Daphne now you will always be happy and running pain free in the kingdom of wobble. I hope we see you there. Goodbye beautiful girl xxx.”

Adam, Katy’s husband, also took to Instagram to share the sorrowful news with his followers. He posted several pictures of their beloved pet and captioned it: “Sweet dreams my princess. Like everything you did it your way.

“We never got to say goodbye but hopefully you know how loved you were. Feel like the sun just left…but fingers crossed your brother is there to hold your paw. I will love your all my days.”

Supporters swiftly flooded the comments section to extend their sympathies to the couple during this challenging period. One individual commented: “I’m so sorry this so so sad, but you loved her so much and she had an amazing life.”

Another follower expressed: “Oh my goodness that is so heartbreaking to read.” A third person wrote: “So dreadfully sorry dear Katy, she was such a little beauty…xxx Sending much love to you both.”
