Police have issued an update after an 81-year-old woman was killed in a hit and run incident last week. Emergency services were called to Longmoor Lane at around 4.15pm on Friday, December 5, following reports a dark-coloured vehicle had hit a pedestrian near the junction with Third Avenue in Fazakerley.

Police said on Friday night the 81-year-old woman, who lived locally, had “gone to the shops” when she was struck by the driver, who fled the scene. The woman has since been formally identified as Margaret Perry.

Margaret suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital where she later died. Police said her family is being supported by specialist officers as the investigation continues.

Merseyside Police confirmed on Monday, December 8, a 69-year-old man from Fazakerley had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop and was taken to police custody.

In an update issued today, Tuesday, December 9, the force confirmed the suspect has been conditionally bailed pending further enquiries.
