A Liverpool restaurant in a village where ‘everybody knows each other’ is celebrating a special milestone. Ekta Rai, 42, from Kensington, runs Tathastu in Woolton Village, alongside her husband Digamber Singh. The Thai restaurant has been up and running for almost a year, with its first birthday fast-approaching on December 21.

Etka described the first few months in business as “wow” while she expressed her gratitude for her customers. She told the ECHO: “You know what, it’s been 22 plus years now I’ve been working in the industry so that’s how it is. I’ve always been working in the industry. It was my dream to do something of my own.

“You know it doesn’t matter how big or small but I really wanted to have my own something which can be like a family restaurant, just by myself and I can easily manage by myself only. So yes, my dream came true in December 2024 when I opened.

“I’m really happy with people’s feedback. I’ve got a few really nice and helpful reviews in Google which really motivates me to do more and more. I am trying to give my community the best of what I can do.”

She added: “I love my neighborhood. Everybody knows each other and we know where it is going like it’s a down business or it’s up business.

“So it’s been really good. I feel blessed.”

Tathastu dishes up a delicious selection of Thai curries, salads, stir frys and more. The restaurant has also become popular for its £35 Sunday bottomless brunch, offering 90 minutes of Thai food and a selection of drinks.

The 42-year-old also launched her chef specials in November, featuring duck in tamarind sauce, roasted duck in red curry sauce and other tasty dishes. The restaurant’s food has kept customers coming back and she said they are welcoming their own set of regulars.

Etka added: “I talk to people and then I ask them, you know, what’s your review? Give us the proper review. Is everything all right? This and that. But then when you see the people who are, like, coming back then you gain that confidence. Like, no, we are all right. We’re doing good. We just have to be consistent and [offer] good quality products and good service. That’s it.”

The mum claims she is “blessed” by her team, who have remained with her from the start. She said: “I am so blessed that I have got my old staff still with me. We’ve sailed through the whole year. I am so thankful.

“Also there is a new chef who has joined me two months back, who is miraculous like, you know, he’s doing magic, magic, magic. He is the one who is pushing me and telling me, ‘no, no, no, we need to add this, we need to deduct this, we need to do this’.

“He is a 65-years-old man and he was very popular when he used to work in London, a very busy restaurant. He won I think two times the best Thai chef in the UK. So yes, I’m very hopeful with this. But anyways, I’m so hopeful and so happy with his work and with his wife’s work. They are magic to my team.”
