Eagled-eyed people spotted the unusual spectacle across the county, with many taking to social media to speculate about aliens and asteroids.

Edna Mendoza said: “I saw this strange moving set of lights this morning, around 5.45am, above Aylsham.

“I’m absolutely clueless as to what may have caused them.”

Another man added: “It was unlike anything I’ve ever seen before, totally bizarre.”

But it wasn’t anything otherworldly – the line of more than 20 individual lights came from Elon Musk’s SpaceX Starlink satellite.

SpaceX began launching Starlink satellites in 2019.

It aims to provide internet coverage to the most rural parts of the world by sending thousands of small satellites into orbit.

The satellites beam down broadband signals to areas without strong cable connections.

It is currently being used in UK government trials to connect areas without strong internet connections.

Starlink satellites can be seen with the naked eye, but they are not always as clear as the most recent sightings.

The probes are easiest to glimpse within a day or two of their launch.

When the satellites reach the intended height of 342 miles above the ground, they become much trickier to spot.
