‘Absolute scumbag taking from a kids nursery’

One of the most enjoyable spectacles during the festive period is a bright, brash and striking Christmas decoration display on a house or commercial building.
Very few sights ignite that feeling of Christmas magic like a lit-up reindeer or snowflake mounted on a roof or window.
Staff at The Heatons Preschool and Day Nursery in Heaton Moor went above and beyond with their display this year, with marvellous baubles and bows adorning their windows and, most notably, two life-size gingerbread men hanging from the drainpipe next to the doorway.
One can only imagine the wonder the children who attend the day care centre must have felt as they arrived each morning in recent days and weeks.
Unfortunately, however, that sense of wonder was taken from those kids last week, when staff arrived in the morning to find the gingerbread men were no longer there.
The Heatons shared a Facebook post on Monday, issuing a plea for the gingerbread men to be returned.
Alongside the caption, “run, run as fast as you can”, a staff member wrote: “At the end of last week unfortunately two of our Gingerbread Men from our Christmas display were taken! If you happen to see them on your travels please can you let us know.
“We are currently looking through our CCTV to see when they slid down the drainpipe and ran away!”
The comments section was awash with people sharing their shock at the revelation, along with their anger at the thought of somebody stealing this piece of Christmas magic from the children of The Heatons.
Eleanor Reed wrote: “I hope you get them back! You have put so much time, effort and money into doing this for all of our children,” while Sarah Bernadette posted: “Awwww no how awful!! What is wrong with people?”.
Jayne Heaton commented: “Disgrace! Absolute scumbag taking from a kids nursery! Hope they get found.”
The Heatons Preschool and Day Nursery has been contacted for an update.
If you’re as troubled as many others seem to be about this crime against Christmas, keep an eye out for the gingerbread pair and contact either MEN or the school if you spot them roaming around.
