Jason Bateman has revealed his surprising reaction to a harsh review of Ozark eight years later, explaining what he thought of the negative critique. Reviews for Ozarkfrom critics throughout its run on Netflix have been almost universally positive. The crime drama has received praise for its dark, twisted story and morally ambiguous characters, like Bateman‘s Marty Byrde.

Speaking with Esquire, however, Bateman reflected on a negative review of Ozark from The New York Times writer Mike Hale, who lambasted his acting as “boring to watch.” The actor remembers laughing about the review, amused because of a creative description Hale used to emphasize just how bland he found Bateman’s performance.
