Sheffield Wednesday are staring down the barrel of relegation to League One with Dejphon Chansiri placing the club into administration.

A preferred bidder will be picked by the administrators in the coming weeks, and the Owls can then start to look forward to a new future.

On the pitch, Wednesday were left heartbroken last night as a late Watford goal denied the Owls a first win in any competition since September.

Charlie McNeill’s brilliant first-half goal was cancelled out by Vivaldo Semedo as the wait goes on for Henrik Pedersen’s team.

All was not lost, however, with one man playing so well that he offered a timely reminder of his quality.

Charles has been out of action since injuring his shoulder in a game against Stoke earlier this season.

In his absence, the Owls have utilised Joe Lumley for a couple of games and more frequently, Ethan Horvath, who had been bumped down to fourth choice by Cardiff.

Horvath isn’t a patch on Charles, and the Northern Ireland number one now looks to be keen to make up for lost time.

The stopper was in fine form against Watford, and for his efforts, he richly deserved a clean sheet.

A late sucker punch did scupper that reward, but ultimately, there is a sense that Wednesday can start keeping more clean sheets with Charles now back to full fitness.

Wednesday keeping Charles beyond January should be the first priority, and if they can do that, it would be a huge positive.

The youngster is the one player in the squad who could be worth millions to the Owls, and with each passing performance, that sum will increase.

The immediate challenge for Charles is to stay fit and help Wednesday claim a few wins, with the emphasis on the Owls playing for some pride between now and the end of the season
