Ralph Sayer aims to raise thousands for Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home

AN EDINBURGH solicitor and estate agency has launched a year-long partnership with Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home (EDCH) to raise thousands to help provide vital support for animals in need.

Launching this month and running for a year, family-run firm Ralph Sayer will turn everyday legal services into life-saving help for pets, with initiatives designed to make giving easy for clients.

The first campaign, Pack & Give Back, encourages clients moving home to donate unwanted household items such as towels, bedding, and unopened pet food. These essentials will go directly to EDCH to provide comfort and care for animals at its Portobello shelter.

A second initiative, Stamp of Approval, Paw of Support, offers free notary and document witnessing services in exchange for voluntary donations to EDCH. Suggested contributions are £50 for standard notarisation and £20 for simpler certifications, with 100% going to the charity.

Kimberley Mackay, Partner in Ralph Sayers’ Private Client department said: “EDCH is an incredible charity, for more than 140 years they’ve provided care, comfort and love to animals that have been abandoned, surrendered or simply had nowhere else to go.

“It’s amazing how much love, time and energy we pour into our pets during life, yet so many people forget to plan for them in death. It can leave beloved animals at risk of being left behind, and that’s where organisations like EDCH step in.

“Over the next year, we’ll be running a range of initiatives to support the Home. From our Pack & Give Back campaign, where clients can donate essential items when moving house, to free notary services in return for donations, and ongoing fundraising across our team.”

To make it as easy as possible for people to get involved, Ralph Sayer has produced a downloadable Pack & Give Back Checklist, to help simplify the donation process and to ensure that items donated will actually be required.

Through Stamp of Approval, Paw of Support, Ralph Sayer has reimagined its notary and document witnessing services as a direct fundraising tool. Clients who might already be visiting the firm for important paperwork are given the chance to support EDCH at the same time, with every contribution going straight to the charity.

Founded in 1865 by Dr John Brown and William Chambers, EDCH was established in response to Victorian Edinburgh’s overwhelming problem with stray dogs.

From those beginnings, the charity has grown steadily, shaped over the decades by the support of notable figures including Princess Antoinette of Monaco and much-loved comedian Ronnie Corbett.

In 2024, the Home marked its 140th anniversary, continuing its mission to make a real difference to the lives of the people and pets of our community. Last year alone, it successfully rehomed 228 pets, reunited 103 animals with their families, and provided more than 42,000 pets with a week’s worth of food through its community food banks.

Life Raluy, Development Manager at EDCH, based in Portobello said: “We’re so grateful to Ralph Sayer for choosing us as their Charity of Choice and for leading such a thoughtful and community-focused partnership.

“Their team has found practical, meaningful ways to support us, from encouraging clients to donate items when moving home, to offering notary services in exchange for donations.”

“At a time when demand for our pet food bank is growing every month and financial pressure is high, this kind of support truly makes a difference.

“Every tin of food, every towel, and every pound raised helps us continue caring for the animals who need us most.”

In addition, the firm will promote ongoing donations to EDCH’s pet food bank, a lifeline service that helps animals in the shelter as well as pets living in the community with owners facing financial hardship.

Donations can be made through a dedicated Amazon Wish List or via Ralph Sayer’s bespoke EDCH fundraising link.
