Amazon has revealed the most popular questions asked of its smart voice assistant this year and its users are a curious bunch.
With chia seeds becoming a “gut health” craze, driven by social media posts about bloat reduction hacks and “internal shower” drinks, Alexa users asked about its health benefits in large numbers.
The ups and downs in Marks & Spencer’s stock price also had people checking in on their portfolios regularly, according to the data.
Queries about famous spouses have their own category and we apparently want to know most about Cherry Seaborn, Sheeran’s wife and childhood sweetheart.
That could be something to do with his honesty about their relationship on his latest album, Play, which references their drunken late-night arguments, the impact of touring on their marriage and her diagnosis with a cancerous tumour in her arm in 2022.

Alexa users are still obsessed with how tall Tom Cruise is (about 5ft 7in) and Sabrina Carpenter’s UK tour had people wondering whether she is as petite as she looks (yes, 5ft). Cruise tops the most queried actor list, which also features the wrestler John Cena. Cena is retiring from in-ring action this Saturday, but has been a crossover star in The Suicide Squad, the Fast & Furious franchise and Argylle.

The hit Netflix film KPop Demon Hunters made its soundtrack the most played album and pushed three of its songs onto the top-played song list.
While Gary Lineker’s podcast stable provided three of the top 10 podcasts (The Rest is Politics, …Football and …History), they were pipped to the top spot by The Archers. Our endless appetite for true crime podcasts saw MrBallen and RedHanded enter the most requested list.

Matt Navarra, a social media consultant, said voice assistants were “like a Swiss army knife of casual curiosity”. He added: “The top queries aren’t about deep knowledge or life-altering decisions, they’re a quick snack of all questions. It’s frictionless information on demand: that’s how people like it nowadays.

“Alexa’s day reflects what really drives people’s curiosity: celebrity net worth, heights, spouses — still clearly slightly obsessed with fame and celebrity culture. We ask a robot for the gossip, instead of our mates. People are treating smart assistants like a cross between a PA and a pub quiz team-mate.
“It isn’t just a list of Alexa queries, it’s a digital fingerprint of the British public in 2025. Impatient, curious, a little nostalgic and navigating one voice command at a time.”

Four in ten UK households have a smart speaker, according to Ofcom, and Amazon’s Echo, which hosts Alexa, accounts for 81 per cent of those.
However, sales have been on the decline and the company is pinning its hopes on an AI-revamped Alexa+ to boost sales.
Amazon sold 2.2 million Echo smart speakers in the UK in the first three quarters of 2025, which was down 9.8 per cent year on year, according to the market intelligence firm IDC.
Worldwide, the sales were 14.4 million, down 1.8 per cent on the previous 12 months.

Francisco Jeronimo, an IDC analyst, said: “Smart home assistants have stagnated because they stopped evolving. Simply controlling lights or playing music is no longer a reason for consumers to upgrade. AI has the power to transform them from passive devices into proactive assistants, which will reignite consumer interest and drive demand for a more intelligent device.”
With one of the most asked questions being “what does AI mean”, Jeronimo added: “Interesting to see a question about AI, which does not come as a surprise, as it is nearly impossible for anyone to avoid talking or hearing about AI every single day. However, this shows that despite the popularity of AI most people don’t really understand what it means.”
