Neto Borges admits he is open to the idea of a permanent move to Bristol City, with seemingly little future for him at Middlesbrough.

Having fallen down the pecking order at Boro under new boss Rob Edwards this summer, Borges requested a move and made a loan switch to Bristol City late in the summer transfer window.

The Brazilian has made a positive impression in the south west, cementing his place in their team as the starting left wing-back where he has two assists to his name.

However, Kim Hellberg’s arrival at Boro, and his keenness to offer opportunities to every player so far, has led to some questions over whether Borges could return to ease defensive injury concerns.

As things stand, with Adilson Malanda and Lukas Engel both set to be registered for the second half of the season, there are no plans at Boro to make use of their recall clause for Borges, however.

And with the 30-year-old entering the final year of his Boro contract when his loan move at Ashton Gate comes to an end, there’s a good chance he’s already played his last game for Boro.

Asked, therefore, if he’d be open to making his Bristol City stay permanent, Borges told Bristol Live: “Definitely yes. If that happens – that conversation happens – definitely I’m open to it.”

Meanwhile, on his time in Bristol overall, he added: “I feel part of what you guys are building here this season. Okay, I know I’m on loan here, but we never know the future, you know?

“I’m not saying I’m going to be here next year because I don’t know the plans of the guys here, but I’m part of the team this season, so I’m enjoying my time here.”
