A man dressed as an elf has been arrested after shouting an abuse at police officers in Liverpool City Centre. On Tuesday, December 9, Merseyside Police stopped a man dressed as an elf on Church Street after he made abusive comments towards them.

Police verified his details, which led to them reportedly discovering he is a named suspect following an assault on Duke Street on Monday, November 17, where a woman was punched in the face and suffered injuries to her lip and nose.

Officers arrested a 55-year-old man from Liverpool on suspicion of assault. He was taken to a police station and has since been bailed with conditions.

Superintendent Charlotte Irlam from Liverpool Neighbourhood Local Policing said: “Using feedback from communities and detailed crime data, the public will see high-visibility patrols and targeted activity across busy, high-footfall areas – including city centre high streets for shopping, bars, restaurants and green spaces – ensuring our resources are focused where they’re needed most.

“Liverpool is a fantastic place to visit, socialise and work, and by working closely with our partners, we’re focused on preventing offences that often occur at this time of year, such as theft, robbery and retail crime. Winter of Action is about reassurance, prevention and partnership – making sure everyone can enjoy the festive season feeling safe and supported.

“We continue to ask the public to come forward with any information that can support our efforts – whether that’s reporting suspicious behaviour, sharing intelligence, or raising concerns. Every piece of information helps us keep our communities safe.”
