Simon Jordan has become the latest media figure to pile on to Celtic boss Wilfried Nancy.

Is that really a surprise? This has never been a guy who keeps his baseless disapproval to himself.

Nancy’s use of a tactics board in his first game in charge of Celtic drew a hysterical reaction from quarters of the media, and plenty have already nailed their colours to the mast.

Despite the noise, Nancy has insisted that he blocks it out, instead focusing on the task at hand ahead of Thursday’s Europa League clash with Roma.

And previewing the European encounter, Jordan and his host Jim White inevitably got on to the conversation of tactics board-gate.

Simon Jordan’s arrogant monologue on Celtic boss Wilfried Nancy

Nancy’s credentials as Celtic manager have been dismissed after a week by some.

And famously successful club owner Jordan, who oversaw Crystal Palace’s descent into administration, doesn’t seem to be having Nancy at all.

On Thursday’s talkSPORT, Jordan got on his high horse about the Hoops boss, before White eventually interjected.

Jordan said: “There’s no credentials, in my mind, for managing in the MLS and managing in Scottish football.

“If you don’t get a hold of this, you’ll get your backside handed to you tonight, by a decent European side in Roma.

“And then all of a sudden, you’re two games in, and you’ve started with changing the team around from the team that O’Neill had stabilised and got some results out of.

“You’ve changed that around, and you’ve gone out there looking like a coach who is all theory and no practice. And you’ve lost the game.”

Jim White interjected, saying: “But it’s game one! He’s just arrived!”

Jordan said: “I know, it’s unfortunate, isn’t it. But first impressions are the ones that last the longest. Make the right one.

“Don’t give people an opportunity to parody what you’re doing. I know I’m always in the camp of saying to somebody, ‘give people an opportunity’…

“But when you walk into a situation like Celtic, one of these unique jobs – there aren’t many of them about – the focus is instantaneously upon you.

“It’s wonderful that Nigel Reo-Coker talks about him, but with all due respect, I don’t think people are listening to Nigel Reo-Coker when it comes to the appointment of a manager.

“I don’t think the MLS is a blueprint for how you manage European sides. But hey, I’m happy to be proven wrong.

“The reason why I’m saying it is that the first impression is important. Because us b—–s in the media, and I include myself in that, we will judge you, forever and a day, on that impression. You’ll never get away from it.

“So win a game. Don’t change too much. Be sensible, get the outcome, move on.”

White said: “I think it’s so picky. Russell Martin was criticised in some quarters for opting not to wear a suit. Big deal!

“If he’d won more games, he’d still be there.”

Jordan said: “I know I might be a philistine, but I do think this baffles brains, all this stuff. The players should know what they’re capable of doing, the manager should set them up at the beginning of the game…

“You shouldn’t need a bleeding tactics board on the site of a pitch, going through it. It’s ridiculous.”

White finally said: “But there’d have been no uproar about that if they’d won the match.”

Are the ‘optics’ of Celtic’s new manager being overblown?
