A body has tragically been found in the search for a missing man from Wigan, police have confirmed. Alan, whose surname was not disclosed by police, had been reported missing last week.

The 71-year-old had been last seen on Howden Drive in Wigan at around 6.10pm on Friday (December 5). An investigation was launched after he vanished.

Multiple appeals were shared following his disappearance. On Thursday (December 11), Greater Manchester Police confirmed a body had been found in the search for the pensioner and that it had been identified as missing Alan.

It has not been confirmed where the tragic discovery was made. Police confirmed Alan’s family are being supported by officers and that there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

“The body of a man found in Wigan earlier today has sadly been identified as missing Alan,” a spokesperson for the force said in a post online.”Alan’s family and close ones are being supported by specialist officers at this time. There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances regarding his death. Thank you to those of you who shared our appeals in recent days.”

Tributes quickly flooded in online after the news, with one person penning: “R.I.P Alan such a lovely man” as another added: “Absolutely heartbreaking he used to come into my work all the time with his friends always the usual black americano extra hot milk- praying for the family and friends at this time.”

“So sad not stopped thinking about Alan since he went missing,” said a third, “RIP Alan, condolences to all his family and friends.”
