Leeds United’s January transfer policy is likely to hinge on two different factors: how much the club have to spend, and who they could make a move for.

Three games remain in 2025 for United. A trip to Brentford looms this Saturday, before a home test against Crystal Palace before Christmas, and a visit up to Sunderland after Christmas.

After that, Daniel Farke will be looking to sink his teeth into some potential transfer business. His ability to land certain targets does hinge on available funds, though.

Leeds United anticipating “unsettled” player transfer swoop in January

Ever since Farke took over, the same party line has been used throughout the two previous January windows.

‘Staying awake’ and playing down imminent business has been the core theme. It’s a tough window to do optimal business in, to be fair, and the club will have to be patient for opportunities to open up.

LeedsLive now share that Leeds’ recruitment team believe the best avenue for securing a signing or two in January is finding players that are unsettled at their current clubs:

“Meanwhile, club sources anticipate there will be opportunities in January to capitalise on players who are unsettled at their current clubs and are looking for more game time.”

What obstacles do Leeds United face as they plan for January transfers?

As ideal as a signing or two would be for Farke, there’s clearly issues to overcome. The most obvious is the lack of funds the club has regarding PSR.

After around £100million spent in the summer and very little in the way of incoming fees from sales, Leeds are on the edge of their PSR threshold. Managing director Robbie Evans confirmed that after the summer window shut.

So, if we want to bring in players, there’ll have to be a sale made in the first half of 2026. Leeds would need to sanction a permanent exit before the June 30th cut-off for this financial year.

Beyond that, finding the right profiles mid-season is an ask. Leeds looked like they were about to sign Harry Wilson on deadline day. Fast-forward to December, and there’s no chance Fulham sell to a direct rival after a string of stunning goals.

There are, however, options out there who haven’t enjoyed the first half of 25/26. As a result, they could be offered a lifeline by moving to Elland Road.
