Henrik Pedersen has done some superb work at Sheffield Wednesday, and perhaps he deserves the chance to continue as the head coach following the takeover.

The Danish figure came to Hillsborough as part of Danny Rohl’s coaching team and helped the Owls stabilise as a Championship club, in a relatively turbulent period.

Pedersen has praised Harry Amass for his form this season, and quite clearly, he’s a coach who isn’t afraid to take on a job when his hands will be largely tied.

Despite Pedersen’s professional approach to leading Wednesday through the biggest episode of turbulence in their history, there have been some errors, with one coming to light in recent days.

Eyebrows were raised when Wednesday managed to get a deal for Redmond over the line and bolster their squad ahead of a busy period.

However, one thing that perhaps won’t come as a surprise is that Redmond is out injured already, following just 11 minutes of football during a 3-2 defeat to Preston.

Redmond’s history with injuries has blighted his career, and although he’s still played a very high level, at 31, it perhaps wasn’t the wisest choice that Wednesday have made in recent times.

There will be some fans who believe that beggars can’t be choosers, however, and landing Redmond was a case of needs must for the Owls.

But, Wednesday are now stuck paying Redmond a wage when perhaps other free agents on the market would have been more viable for the Owls at this stage of the season.

Of course, there is a lot of hindsight with this, and clearly, some due diligence was done on Redmond during a trial period, which he embarked on at the club.

However, it all just feels a bit desperate, with Pedersen confirming the rumours that he’s now going to spend a period of time on the sidelines ahead of the New Year.

Furthermore, Redmond only actually signed a contract until the end of the calendar year based on his injury record and it suggest that they weren’t entirely sure about a deal themselves.

What Henrik Pedersen has said about Nathan Redmond

Pedersen’s comments are somewhat concerning, given that it would seem that no real timescale is being put on the injury.

Redmond’s experience might have made him useful for Wednesday but it always felt as though there was just too much risk with this deal.

Pedersen has done an awful lot of things right since he was handed the managerial job at Wednesday, and it’s fair to say that his hands are most certainly tied behind his back.

Redmond picking up an injury after one appearance, perhaps showcases the rotten luck that Wednesday are having at the moment, but his record with these types of problems is far from ideal.

It now remains to be seen how quickly Redmond recovers, but this already feels like a transfer that just won’t come to any sort of fruition for Wednesday.
