West Midlands Railway reported at 4.45pm that the issue at Birmingham New Street station had caused some lines to be closed into the station, with tickets being accepted on metro and bus services.

A spokesman for West Midlands Railway said: “Due to an operational incident at Birmingham New Street some lines are blocked.

“West Midlands train tickets will be accepted on National Express West Midlands buses and on the Midland Metro as some services may still be subject to delays or alterations.”

It was later confirmed that the lines had been unblocked and services able to return to normal at 6pm.

A spokesman for West Midlands Railway said: “Due to an operational incident earlier at Birmingham New Street. 

“Lines have now reopened.”
