Joe Rodon is a key player for Leeds and a well-known figure in English football.

The Leeds No.6 made a name for himself at Swansea – his hometown club – before earning an £11m move to Tottenham in October 2020.

The Welshman then sealed a £10m switch to Elland Road in July 2024, where he can currently boast 225 career appearances in total and 58 caps for Wales.

Joe Rodon is therefore becoming something of a household name in the United Kingdom, although one place you would not expect the defender to be popular is Argentina. However, that is bizarrely the case.

What Leeds United posted about Joe Rodon as fans left shocked

For whatever reason, the Wales international is currently the most viewed player in Buenos Aires – according to FBREF.

Where does Joe Rodon rank in the list of Leeds’ best-ever signings? 🤔

Leeds posted a tweet revealing this information, teasing Lionel Messi, Julian Alvarez or Rodrigo De Paul – once a transfer target – as the potential answer, only to send supporters into disbelief when they named Rodon instead.

In addition to a number of laughing emojis, one Leeds fan posted on X (previously known as Twitter): “Eh is this actually true? Surely not.”

A second Leeds supporter was also left chuckling about Rodon – who Daniel Farke adores – and posted: “We are massive.”

A third praised these particular Argentines for being so obsessed with Rodon – one of the best passers in Europe right now – and hailed their knowledge of football, writing: “The people of Buenos Aires know ball.”

Furthermore, a fourth fan posted: “Brilliant to see the Rolls Royce at the tip of Argentina.”

Others simply posted images or videos of Marcelo Bielsa – who is coming back to England in March – suggesting the Argentine is responsible for Rodon’s popularity in Buenos Aires, despite never coaching the defender.

It means very little in the grand scheme of things, but it is nevertheless hilarious to discover the 28-year-old is currently more popular in Buenos Aires than any other footballer, even Messi.

Lamine Yamal was also named on the FBREF list, and Leeds United could sign an even better dribbler than the Barcelona star

Unsurprisingly, the precocious Lamine Yamal is also among the most viewed players in football – the Spain international is currently the most popular player in Panama City and Bogota.

The teenager is arguably one of the best dribblers on the planet, but as it happens, Leeds could sign an even better ball-carrier this winter in Jens Petter Hauge.

The likes of Joel Piroe and Willy Gnonto are struggling to force their way into Farke’s plans.

Leeds are monitoring Hauge ahead of the January transfer window, and after the latest round of UEFA Champions League games, Squawka revealed that the Norwegian has recorded the most successful dribbles (23) in the entire competition so far this season.

The Bodo/Glimt No.10 was also ahead of Jeremy Doku and Vinicius Junior.

With Leeds currently lacking a player who runs at defenders, Hauge would be an ideal signing this winter.
