Leeds United will have to go against the form guide again this weekend if they want a positive result against a Brentford side that are looking formidable at home.

United’s form under Daniel Farke was in dire need of improvement. But, right as he looked like he was staring down the barrel, he’s changed our fortunes.

Four points from home games against Chelsea and Liverpool was a much-needed boost. Now, ahead of Christmas, he’s got two more big tests starting with a trip to Brentford.

Chris Sutton piles praise on Daniel Farke as Leeds United face Brentford

For Farke, the turnaround does shift the discourse in a much positive direction for him. From being on the brink of the sack, he’s now looking ahead to what appears a much more optimistic survival bid.

Ex-Norwich City man Chris Sutton was never happy with calls for Farke to be sacked. He believes that it was always harsh to suggest the German couldn’t cope with the Premier League.

“This is another big game at the bottom of the table,” Sutton began in his BBC predictions. “I am so pleased for Leeds boss Daniel Farke. Because I was fed up with the rubbish being talked about how he cannot manage in the Premier League.

“Leeds have had a tough run of games against Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool and it felt like there were people out there who were waiting and even wishing for Farke to fail, so he would be sacked.

“I am delighted that it has turned out very differently. The performances, the guts, and the quality that Leeds have shown has been brilliant, even in defeat at City, and against Chelsea and Liverpool they have picked up points too. Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s goals have made the difference. And, they will go into this game full of belief, and thinking they have got a real chance.”

“Farke’s future shouldn’t be in doubt” – Chris Sutton issues Brentford v Leeds United prediction

The last time Farke faced Brentford, it was a trip to the Gtech Community Stadium as Norwich boss, where he won 2-1 in November 2021.

Despite that being Norwich’s first win of the campaign, he was sacked in the aftermath anyway. Sutton, though, doesn’t think that should even be a suggestion here, even though he expects a Bees win.

“Brentford are still favourites, though, because their home form is so good – with five wins, a draw and just one defeat under Keith Andrews so far,” Sutton continued.

“The Bees were pretty limp when they went to Spurs last week but on their own patch it is a different story. They have won their past three games there, against Liverpool, Newcastle and Burnley. So, like Leeds, they will be full of confidence.

“I remember Farke’s last game as Norwich manager in November 2021, when his team beat Brentford but he was sacked a few hours later. This time, I am backing Brentford to win, but Farke’s future should not be in doubt.”

Final prediction: 2-0 Brentford.

Can Leeds United buck Brentford’s home form with another good performance?

After beating Chelsea and drawing to Liverpool, there should be ambition to keep up that form on Sunday.

But, playing those two sides at home and playing Brentford away are completely different propositions. We’ve been terrible on the road, and the Bees are one of the best on home turf.

If we can feed into the horrible aspect of our game even more, we can more than compete with Brentford on Sunday.

It sounds somewhat defeatist to say you’d take a draw. But, I definitely would.
