Several main roads in south Wales are affected by closures due to roadworks in the days ahead – here’s everything you need to know

Motorists across Wales are being urged to brace themselves for travel disruption this week as a series of planned roadworks are set to cause disruptions on key routes. Major roads such as the M4 and various A-roads will be impacted, with drivers being advised to prepare in advance and factor in additional time for their travels. Here is a list of scheduled full and partial road closures for the coming week, according to Traffic Wales and traffic monitoring system Inrix.
- M48: Severn Bridge, both directions – 7.5t weight restriction for heavy goods vehicles until further notice
- M4: Westbound, J24 Coldra, onslip closed between 8pm and 6am between December 13 and 14
- M4: Both directions, J26 Malpas to J24 Coldra. Roadworks, road closed between 8pm and 6am between December 13 and 14
- M4: Both directions, J38 Margam to J367 Pyle. Roadworks and contraflow. The westbound carriageway is closed with a contraflow operating on the eastbound carriageway. Between 0.01am and 11.59am Mondays to Sundays until December 19.
- M48: Westbound, J1 Aust to J2 Newhouse. Roadworks, between 8pm and 6am until December 15.
- A4060: Both directions, Pentrebach to A470 Abercanaid. Roadworks, diversions in place between 8pm and 6am until December 19
- A40 Pontargothi: Both directions. Bridge closed for emergency work. Diversions in place from 9am until 3.30pm on December 16.
- A40, St Clears: Both directions. One lane closed due to electricity work on A40 in both directions from the A477 (St Clears Roundabout, St Clears) to the B4328 (Llanboidy Roundabout, Whitland). Between 8am and 5pm Mondays to Sundays until February 17.
- A4216 Cockett Road, Swansea. Temporary traffic lights due to electricity work on A4216 Cockett Road at Townhill Road. Expect delays. Until October 2026.
