Leeds United travel to Burnley for a tough test

A casual glance at the Premier League table may offer a suggestion Leeds United’s game with Burnley is one not just for the taking but one they should be targeting three points from.
Taking on a team close to them in the bottom half of the table with the chance to cut the gap down to one point between the sides should they return back north with a win tucked in their Christmas stockings, it could look like a much easier task than actually lies ahead.
If course Leeds will approach every game with a desire to win, but the expectation may differ. Make no mistake a trip to Burnley is akin to going to Arsenal or Manchester City this season, such is the difficult nature of the fixture.
In fact only the Gunners, Man City and Aston Villa have taken more points at home this season than the Bees, with Villa having played a game more.
A return of five wins, one draw and a solitary 1-0 defeat to Manchester City is a superb return from their seven games at the Gtech Community Stadium, but it is who the points came against which reinforces the difficult nature of this game for Leeds.
Burnley have beaten at home Villa, Manchester United, Liverpool, Newcastle United and Burnley, drawing against Chelsea. It’s an impressive list of scalps and they’ll be confident of adding Leeds to that list.
For their part, Leeds have the second worst away record in the Premier League this season , winning one of their seven games and averaging less than a goal a game. Confidence will be high in the Leeds camp after a good run of performances, but they’ll likely need to lift to another gear to match their hosts.
