The restaurant has had a magical makeover

The team go all out at Christmas

And bosses reckon they’ve outdone themselves this year with a take on the wizarding world.

There’s a cosy fireplace framed by glittering trees as well as a flurry of letters spilling upward with a wise owl perched among them.

Meanwhile, there’s a dreamy sky of drifting clouds and twinkling stars above the grand-hall-inspired dining room.

The restaurant, which opened in the mall in 2023, has been dubbed a ‘chamber of magic’.

CHRISTMAS CHEERS!

Whimsical gifts and hidden surprises peek from every corner, while tables glow softly with candlelight.

Alex Winter, General Manager at Duck & Waffle Edinburgh, said: “Each year we love creating something that captures the imagination and spirit of the season, and Chamber of Magic is our most enchanting transformation yet.

“We wanted to bring a sense of wonder and playfulness to the restaurant — a place where guests can escape the ordinary, share great food and drink, and feel part of a truly magical story.”

Throughout the season, Duck & Waffle is serving up a three-course Festive Set Menu, featuring dishes such as Roasted Pumpkin Soup, Braised Ox Cheek Beef Bourguignon and Apple and Orange Mince Pie Crumble.

On Christmas Day, guests will be treated to a four-course feast where traditional ingredients are reimagined with Duck & Waffle’s signature creativity.

Highlights include Honey Baked Brioche, Lobster & Prawn Cocktail with Avruga caviar, Norfolk Bronze Turkey with all the trimmings and a decadent Spiced Baba au Rhum dessert.

At the bar, guests can toast the season with limited-edition Bacardi cocktails.

Highlights include Wizard’s Butter Brew, made with Bacardi Spiced rum, Angostura bitters, allspice liqueur, ginger ale and caramel foam.

Meanwhile, there’s also Sorcerer’s Reserve, a smooth and smoky blend of Bacardi Reserva Ocho rum, Pedro Ximénez, Angostura bitters and Demerara cordial.

MY VIEW

BEFORE the festive makeover was revealed, I popped into the Edinburgh eaterie for a spot of brunch.

And even before the festive magic arrived, it’s an impressive looking place.

There’s an open kitchen right in the centre of the restaurant, so you can see the signature waffles being created.

The whole place is buzzing with life and chatter, making your meal feel like an event.

My main problem was what on earth to choose from the delights on offer.

In the end one of the venue’s classics, eggs florentine. Two perfect poachers were served on top of perfectly wilted spinach and a pair of fluffy waffles. And the whole thing was topped with a sharp and butter hollandaise sauce – delightful.

My best pal Suzy, who’s vegan, had a wealth of choice, for a change.

She also plumped for waffles, but hers were smothered in creamy avocado and topped with chilli. She was in heaven.

We decided to add a couple of sides and were so glad we did as the corn ribs were the star of the show.

Served with fermented chilli BBQ sauce, they were perfectly grilled and delicious.

Out other sides were classic fried and tenderstem broccoli with hummus and chill crunch.

It was a magical place for a brunch date – and will be even more special now the festive makeover is in place.

There’s themed cocktails on the menu too
