Firefighters have rushed to the centre of Glasgow following reports of smoke billowing from a drain. Three fire engines arrived on Renfield Street after the alert was sounded at 2.24pm on Sunday, December 14.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that crews are currently investigating the incident, which has also resulted in a power cut in the vicinity. Further details about the situation remain undisclosed.

Eyewitness Joe Scotting recounted: “I was just getting off the bus by Cash Converters with my mate and suddenly we see a totally black and smoking pavement slab.

“Out of nowhere, some firefighters swarm the area and cordon it off. They lifted it, and this giant waft of smoke blew up.”, reports Glasgow Live.

A representative for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service stated: “We are there investigating smoke coming out of a drain and there is a power outage in the area.

“There are three fire engines in attendance and we got the original call at 2.24pm.”
